“My Addiction-Free Saharanpur” Public Awareness Program by Brahma Kumaris

Dr. Dharam Singh, State Minister and Independent in-Charge of Ayush Department of Uttar Pradesh; BK Dr. Sachin Parab, National Co-ordinator of the De-addiction Project launched by the Head Quarters of the Brahma Kumaris at Mount Abu, Rajasthan; along with Mr. Raghav Lakhanpal Singh, MP; Mr. Sanjiv Valiga, Mayor; Mr. Devendra Nim, MLA; Mr. Sanjiv Garg, MLA; Mr. CP Tripathi, Commissioner for the District; Mr. Sharad Sachan, DIG; Mr. Upendra Kumar Agrawal, SSP; BK Rani, Brahma Kumaris Centre In-Charge, Saharanpur; Dr. Sharad Agrawal and Mr. Gyanendra Singh, Municipal Commissioner, and other Dignitaries were present at the Public Awareness Program on “My Addiction-Free Saharanpur” organized by the Brahma Kumaris Center of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The program was commenced by a traditional lighting of lamps by the distinguished guests.

Dr. Dharam Singh Saini said that those who are afraid of problems in life get into the habit of harmful addictions. He said that if the sorrows in the world could be solved by intoxications then the whole world would have taken the help of it. In this matter he cited the example of the village of Miragpur. He said that here every home and the entire village is free from any kind of harmful addictions. He said that we must campaign more for De-addiction and make the entire District De-addicted. He said that those who are killing cows must be given strong punishment and implement prohibition for any type of intoxication.

BK Dr. Sachin Parab said that our motto is to change ourself first, and then tell others to leave their bad habits and inspire them to transform themselves. We must not compel anyone. He explained through a Slide Show the dangerous effects of smoking, drinking alcohol and chewing tobacco. etc., to the public by enlightening them about the ill effects of these products on their health and their life. He stated that in America 4,000 children of 12 years of age are daily smoking cigarettes whereas in India that figure is 5,500 children of the same age are smoking daily. The result of this is that they are developing mouth Cancer. Slowly they are unable to open their mouth and then die with suffering. People who are nearby and inhale the smoke emitted from their mouth also fall ill and suffer. Persons who drink liquor generally meet with many accidents and die. They injure others in their drunken condition.

Dr. Sachin Parab further stated that illegal farming of Opium is done enormously in the State of Arunachal Pradesh which is more than enough to destroy our India completely. Children who are addicted to it are selling their own blood for these narcotic drugs.

Lastly, Commissioner Mr. C P Tripathi said that anyone found dealing with such harmful items must be brought to the notice of the Police for taking proper action against them. Everyone took a de-addiction oath led by Dr. Sachin Parab at the end of the program.
