Rajim, Chhatisgarh: The ceremony of Haldi Kumkum was organized in a different way by the Brahma Kumaris at Trimurti Bhawan, Om Shanti Colony, Rajim Nawapara, Chhatisgarh. Every year this ceremony is organized at the centre on the occasion of the festival Makar Sankranti where the women of the city participate in huge numbers.

‘Many revolutions took place in the world – the Green revolution, the White Revolution, etc., but the world could not become joyful with that. It cannot happen until there is the revolution of peace and virtues. We might be celebrating Makar Sankranti every year, but there cannot be any revolution in our life until spirituality becomes a part of our life.’  These thoughts were expressed by BK Narayan at the ‘Sondhi Mehak’ program talking about the ‘Role of women in transformation of Sanskars’.

He said, “When life is full of spirituality, the vices are put to an end. Life becomes sweet (like jaggery). By the sacrifice of sesame seeds, that is small vices, the soul is able to behave well with other souls. Life is filled with love and joy. Such a transformation of Sanskars through spirituality is called Sankranti.”

The Chief guest, Lalita Aggarwal, Principal, Harihar Senior Secondary School, said, “The festival of Sankranti is celebrated to mark the end of vices and inculcation of virtues. A mother is the first teacher of a child. She sustains the child since conception until the childhood stage. The behavior and attitude of a mother deeply influences a child.”

Special Guest Nidhi Aggarwal, owner of Sanvi Abacus, said, “Just like pulses and rice mix in Khichdi, we must match our sanskars with others. We must stay united with all just like sesame seeds. The meaning of serving Jaggery at this festival is to forget all bitter experiences and bring sweetness in the relationships.”

Special Guest Anju Parekh, President, Mahavir International, said, “On the day of Sankranti, we need to take an oath of making our life sweet like Laddu. We hold others responsible for everything which brings bitterness in our lives. If we hold ourselves to be responsible, the second person will automatically respect us.”

The program was presided by BK Pushpa, Executive Head, Brahma Kumaris Rajim Nawapara. She said, “In our culture, fire is taken as a good omen for every good act. Fire is lit for Yagya, it is the means to Liberation as well, to surrender all vices and body to fire means to receive a flawless body. Based on this belief, the sesame seeds are burnt in fire, which brings sweetness to our lives. Life is filled with love, peace and bliss.”

At the end of the program, a guided meditation was practiced for the experience of peace. Everyone was given a Tilak of Haldi Kumkum which is a sign of eternal Suhag (fortune) and health. The sweet of Sesame Laddus was served to everyone. Chitra Rekha Aggarwal, Rupali and other social servers were also present in the program.
