A seminar on “Bhagwad Gita: Your Satnav on the Road of Life,” to learn how the ancient wisdom of the Gita can help overcome challenges met by younger and older generations, was delivered by BK Jayanti, the European Director of the Brahma Kumaris and NGO representative to the United Nations, Geneva, organised by the Brahma Kumaris at Harmony House in Leicester, UK.

BK Jayanti said that the Srimad Bhagwad Gita is such a special scripture which has been translated in different languages and is heard worldwide. There are certain truths mentioned in the Gita that is the ultimate truth and eternal, that doesn’t change with time. In the Gita, there is a scene of the Mahabharat depicted in which God gives shrimat to Arjun, about what should be his role in the war. The Gita is not a scripture confined to Hindus. When it is sung that the religion of the deities is non-violence, then the war becomes a matter of thought. On one side, it is said that there is the (akshouni sena) army with (vipreet buddhi) those with non-loving intellects with God, and on the other side were five Pandavas of the loving intellects (preet buddhi) with God. If we take a look at the world today there is a population of billions. There are people who say we believe in religion but among them there would be very few who would say we have to walk as per God’s directions. So there comes a question in the mind whether this was a violent war or something else.

The biggest enemy that is described in the Gita is Lust, and lastly, it is said: “Nashtomoha Smritilabdha” (Destroyer of Attachment and Embodiment of Remembrance).  When the knowledge becomes clear, he says I have conquered all attachments. This makes it clear that there is no human being who is described as the enemy. Also in the Gita it is said: “Your mind is only your friend and your mind is your enemy,” and God gives the mantra of “Manmanabhav” to remember Him through the mind. When we remember Him and our mind wanders here and there, during that time, the mind becomes the enemy, and the moment it cooperates, it becomes a friend. So when we think wisely about this, we understand that it’s not a war outside, but a war inside, not only Brahma Kumaris agree with this but also former president Radhakrishnan was of the same belief. God says forget the body and all bodily relations and Remember Me. So when the word in the Gita arises “Maaro,” so God here means to forget the body and relations by considering the self as a soul, and then it becomes easy for the intellect to remember Him. In the Gita, Buddhi yog, Karma yog and Raj yoga are mentioned. The message of the Gita is to connect your intellects with Me, and to Remember Me even while performing karmas. Remember the King of kings the “Supreme soul” on the basis of which you can receive the status of a king.  As the soul attains power from the Almighty then the soul regains power over its senses.

The event concluded with a guided meditation giving everyone the experience of peace and tranquility.
