Within the sustainable development awareness activities, the Academy for Integrated and Sustainable Development (AISD) under the aegis of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University has organised a workshop cum exhibition on the occasion of World Water Day, on Thursday, 22 March 2018 at 13 00 at Wooton. Nearly 150 people participated in the event. It was designed to educate the students of secondary schools and the general public about the importance of water which constitutes 75% of the surface of our planet, and 75% of our physical body.
“The United Nations has placed this subject in 6th position as Clean Water and Sanitation among the 17 objectives for sustainable development; It is good that blue gold is becoming a fundamental issue for the survival of our species, and that man can act on it”, said Arnaud GRAS, President of the AISD. A few significant figures as part of the introduction of the seminar was mentioned that is, 850,000 people die each year due to lack of safe water, including 1,000 children per day.
Industrialization and lifestyles show the imbalance: it takes 1,000 to 3,000 litres of water to produce 1 kilo of rice… but 13,000 to 15,000 to produce 1 kilo of meat. “The AISD has a holistic approach to environmental issue, taking into account the physical, mental, emotional, family, social, cultural and spiritual dimensions.”
Several experts were called upon to enlighten on the importance of water. Mr Vassen KAUPPAYMUTHOO, Oceanographer and Engineer on environment spoke about sustainable development which is of great concern by the Government as well as the population. Nowadays, we are all in quests of environmental issue” he added. He also emphasised on the effect of our actions on the environment and how ‘mind influences the future’.
Dr Gopalsamy NAIDU, Director of a laboratory which develops natural therapies, showed how water is a factor of good health. He raised awareness on the different qualities of bottled water, and the proper way to hydrate oneself.
Finally, Mr Pradeep JAGUTPAL, Stress Management Consultant from the Brahma Kumaris related the scientific experiments of the Japanese Dr Masaru EMOTO, on the effects of thoughts and emotions on water with a practical exercise. Photographs of water crystals taken under different emotions that were shown were mind blowing.
Each participant, through a few minutes of guided meditation was taught how to communicate their feelings to water. They were all able to purify and energize the water bottle that was given to them with the power of positive thoughts.
An exhibition on the environment and meditation was held as part of the programme of the day.
